A fish doesn’t appreciate water because they are born into it. They have never experienced life without it; until they are taken out of water and realize how important that water is to them.
Americans who are born into freedom don’t always appreciate freedom because they have never lived without it. Until that freedom is taken from them, then they realize how important freedom is.
In order to have freedom, we have to be aware of our freedoms.
“Awareness to what is so real and essential, so hidden in plain sight, all around us all the time, that we have to keep reminding ourselves, over and over, this is water…this is water.” David Foster Wallace

Does this ring true or what? Complacency and attitude come to mind. Thank God someone cared enough to introduce us to LIFE. We are blessed to learn better ways to think which allows us to improve our lives and make a difference. Freedom isn’t free it takes involvement. Thanks for the reminder Kristen blessings Bill
Absolutely Bill, thanks so much for your comments!!
Great post! Thank you for the reminder that there are people who want to hear the truth! Water is essential, but if we don’t realize its there and its history and importance…we lose the right perspective.
You got is Tatyana, glad you recognized the metaphor. Thanks for your comment!

Our pastor’s sermon yesterday dealt, in part, with the fact that there are no “throw-away” people. His question was “Who are the shepherds in your life?” Shepherds did not have a great reputation in biblical times (unclean, unwashed, oft-times former thieves) – yet they had the good news of Christ’s birth revealed to them.
Amen, thank you so much for sharing and also re-blogging this article!
What a perfect article at the perfect time. I seem to have daily conversations about this very topic with foreign and native friends. Those from other countries especially dictatorships are sensitive to the liberties and slowly disentigrating freedoms! Thank you for your battle for freedom!

I am proud of you, Amber, for discussing the topic of freedom. More people need to have the courage to bring awareness to it. Thank you for your comment!
Great reminder of reality in the world and how you look at how you think. It could be a lot worse for most of us appreciate what we have and sometimes what we don’t have! Thanks for a great reminder.
Absolutely Charlie! LIFE teaches us how to think, not what to think! Thanks for all your comments and support 🙂
